TeachFX and Total Physical Response Storytelling in the Spanish classroom

Learn how Danica Mathis, a high school Spanish teacher, uses TeachFX to increase quality classroom conversation in line with her style of teaching.

"We recently learned about TeachFX through a professional development, and I decided to use it in a few of my classes. It was very easy to use.

"The style of teaching that I do is called TPRS - Total Physical Response Storytelling.

"So all I did was take my iPad, hit record, and I walked around the room as I normally do, and the entire class is just through conversation, through our story, through the class as a whole, and then one on one with students.

"The information that I gathered through TeachFX was all through the analyzation that it provides. It showed that a lot of the teacher talk was really high and the group talk was low.

"The student response was pretty good. But what it made me reflect on is that in future classes, I wanted the students to be speaking more with each other.

"And so in the next classes, that's exactly what I did. I incorporated more opportunities for students to speak in the target language to each other, and I recorded that, and that's what the data showed.

"So it helped me reflect on the purpose and what is best for my students. I look forward to using it again!"
