TeachFX Tips for Instructional Leaders

The greatest athletes in the world view footage of themselves on the field. Only by seeing the footage after the fact, and reflecting on what they see, can they identify what they want to work on next – and whether they’re making progress.

Why would teaching be any different?

TeachFX helps teachers listen back to their own teaching, so that they can celebrate their progress and identify where they want to grow as the skilled, inspired professionals they are.

When your school or district partners with TeachFX, your teachers get unlimited access to the TeachFX instructional coaching app. They also receive inquiry-based, personalized professional development workshops from our amazing educators.

Here’s a bit more about how it works…

Your teachers use TeachFX to gather their own instructional insights

It’s simple. Teachers set up their account (they can also start a free trial if you haven’t yet launched a partnership), record a quick voice sample to train TeachFX on their voice, and then they’re ready to go.

  1. Teachers record audio of their lesson.

With TeachFX, teachers decide when and what they want to record. They can gather feedback as frequently as they want, without relying on an instructional leader’s observation.

  2. Teachers get objective, AI-generated instructional feedback, that’s private for them.

The most impactful instructional feedback is private, objective, and frequent. That’s what TeachFX does. Once a teacher hits record, the app does the rest.

Using TeachFX, teachers can record and self-reflect knowing that their data is private. No one else can access their reports unless they choose to share them. So, TeachFX creates a safe space for teachers to reflect on what they’re seeing in their practice and how their students are engaging.

  3. Teachers can choose to share their reports with others right in the app.

Whether working with teachers in a PLC or working with an instructional leader in a coaching capacity, teachers can choose to share their reports with others. It’s as easy as clicking Share from their report.

Or, they can choose to bring their self-reflections to PLCs and coaching conversations.

  4. Teachers and instructional leaders get to see schoolwide data on how student talk is changing.

The TeachFX community page provides a place for teachers and instructional leaders to see and celebrate progress being made schoolwide in increasing student talk, without making any teacher’s TeachFX data visible.

TeachFX can support your coaching conversations

Here’s what the coaching cycle looks like with TeachFX:

With TeachFX, teachers share their reports, collaborate with their coaches, and celebrate their growth.

📊  Teachers can share their reports with their coach.
Instead of relying on you sitting in the back of their classrooms to capture data, now, teachers can simply share their reports with you.

⭐️ Coaching conversations can be collaborative and data-informed.
Now, your coaching conversations are centered around objective and non-evaluative data that will help you support teachers in their development.

Here are some questions to help guide those conversations:

  • Which part of the lesson would you like to celebrate?

  • Which part of the lesson do you think we can focus on that will lead to more students talking?

📲 Teachers use TeachFX again to record their lessons, and celebrate their progress with their coach and peers.
The TeachFX coaching cycle allows teachers to see and celebrate their professional growth and even share their best practices with colleagues across grade levels and PLCs.

With TeachFX, instructional leaders no longer have to spend hours gathering instructional feedback data to plan for coaching conversations. Your teachers already have the data they need to make the most of your coaching.

Providing feedback doesn’t have to be so hard. TeachFX provides a better way.

When we’ve asked instructional coaches and leaders about how they go about providing instructional feedback to teachers, they’ve consistently shared myriad challenges they wish they could solve

Most instructional leaders just don’t have time to get into classrooms as much as they want to.

Many schools don’t have instructional coaches. And even when they do, it’s hard for the coaches to be in all teachers’ classrooms regularly. Coaches usually have a lot of other responsibilities on their plates.

Even when framed as supportive and non-evaluative, being observed while teaching can be stressful.

We’ve heard from principals and coaches who found that, despite having a supportive and collaborative culture,  walkthroughs and observations feel high stakes for their teachers.

And, the feedback shared after a walkthrough can often feel subjective at best. For instance – something amazing happened before you walked in or just after you left, and the walkthrough feedback couldn’t take that into account.

It’s impossible to capture everything that happens in the classroom, let alone be present while doing so.

Does this sound familiar? You’ve got a few minutes in a classroom, and you’re sitting in the back of the room, frantically trying to track by hand every minute of student talk, every question asked, and more. And while you’re trying to get that all down manually,  you’re not actually present, listening to or watching what’s happening around you.

With TeachFX, teachers gather their own feedback. They can listen to themselves teach, identify where they want to grow, and see how they’re improving.

TeachFX helps teachers and instructional leaders close the feedback loop by providing teachers with on-demand instructional feedback on what matters most – classroom dialogue

This feedback helps teachers pursue improvements in their own practice without having to rely solely on classroom observations, and it makes coaching conversations even more impactful.

With TeachFX, teachers have access to data that shows how much student talk is happening and instructional practices that can increase student engagement.

Right now, your teachers could have the power to review and reflect on what they hear in their lessons - replaying what they see in their data, helping them superpower their practice just like elite athletes.
