TeachFX is hiring a Head of Engagement

Nothing makes a bigger impact on the quality of a child’s education than an effective teacher. TeachFX is a mission-driven organization that uses AI to superpower teachers’ work — providing teachers with instant, on-demand feedback on their craft. With the TeachFX app, teachers record their lessons and automatically receive feedback on the student engagement and discourse patterns in their classroom, and the app automatically provides the teacher with targeted pedagogical insights on high-leverage teaching strategies like open-ended questioning, wait time, “volleyball”-style conversation, and more.

ABOUT US

We are a small team of educators and technologists who created TeachFX because we believe in the central importance of student engagement and teacher learning in improving education. Currently, we have about 40 partner school districts, and our product is being used by thousands of teachers around the country. Our investors include Ulu Ventures, Newfund, Brighteye Ventures, and Reach Capital, among others. We work as entrepreneurs-in-residence inside one of our partner schools — Synapse School near Redwood City and Menlo Park, CA.

ABOUT YOU

As Head of Engagement, you will lead key aspects of the organization and serve as the face of TeachFX for teachers, instructional coaches, principals, and district administrators. Our team now is small (six people), and you will be one of the leaders of the organization as we scale and you build out your own team. Because we are an early stage startup, the ability to be flexible, to embrace ambiguity, and to thrive outside of hierarchies is very important. THE ROLE

As Head of Engagement, you will own and manage relationships with our partner districts and schools, very similar to a traditional “Director of Customer Success” role. You will work closely with David Brazer, our Director of Professional Learning, in ensuring schools and districts have an amazing and transformative experience working with us. You will be primarily responsible for:

  • TEACHER ENGAGEMENT — helping and encouraging teachers to use the TeachFX app as much as possible.

    • Onboarding teachers by leading thoughtful discussions about student engagement, teaching, and learning, as well as demoing the TeachFX app to teachers, coaches, administrators, and other partners as they begin working with us.

    • Designing and executing engagement campaigns, and writing all communications with teachers currently using the app, such as automated or personalized emails, notifications, social media posts, etc.

    • Providing customer support to our users, helping troubleshoot technical problems, and relaying feedback in product meetings.

    • Crafting or eliciting blog posts, videos, email blasts, and other communications that…

      • Showcase all the awesome ways teachers and coaches are using TeachFX to improve instruction.

      • Share product updates and celebrate TeachFX successes.

      • Serve as pithy resources for teachers looking to improve their craft, and that highlight important nuggets from the educational research literature that demonstrate the value of TeachFX and the strategies we promote.

      • Engage experts in the field in thoughtful conversation about TeachFX-related topics.

      • Provide motivation to teachers or address worries they might have about using the app.

      • Engage educators in other creative and interesting ways!

    • Collecting both qualitative and quantitative data on teacher engagement to showcase as case studies and to supports our efforts during the renewal/expansion process. You will collect and edit testimonials of teachers and coaches, often in video form, sharing their experience using TeachFX. You will also use aggregated usage data from our app to demonstrate its efficacy and reach.

  • FOSTERING COMMUNITY — creating and supporting virtual and in-person communities where educators can leverage TeachFX feedback to learn and grow professionally.

    • Directing and managing TeachFX’s ambassador program (“TeachFXers”).

    • In collaboration with our Director of Professional Learning, designing and delivering professional development workshops for teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators that help them use TeachFX to promote more student-centered instruction and better teacher collaboration.

    • Serving as an instructional coach when necessary, often modeling what “TeachFX-powered coaching” looks like for district partners. You will coach teachers both 1:1 and in PLCs using TeachFX as the springboard for discussion and the follow-up mechanism for after the coaching session is over.

    • Encouraging and managing discussions about TeachFX on social media platforms and fostering collaboration.

    • Brainstorming and developing new ways we haven’t discovered yet to build a supportive TeachFX user community.

  • CUSTOMER RESEARCH — conducting user insight research and furthering product development.

    • Eliciting feedback from teachers, coaches, and administrators through interviews, surveys, and other means to learn what’s working and what isn’t, and developing and implementing strategies to boost engagement based on that feedback.

    • Informing product development through market and audience identification, problem identification, competitive analysis, new product conception, and growing and simplifying existing products. You will also help define our customers: who are they, their lifestyles, needs, wants, values, attitudes.

    • Ensuring research insights are digestible and actionable, and that they are synthesized and disseminated to the rest of the team.

  • THOUGHT LEADERSHIP — further establishing TeachFX as a respected voice in the education field on topics like student engagement, equity, and teacher learning and collaboration.

    • Assisting with marketing and press placements, as well as promoting TeachFX content such as blog posts to wider audiences beyond our user base.

    • Speaking on panels, engaging experts in the field, attending conferences, and becoming an expert on research related to classroom discourse.

The key measures of your success in these responsibilities will be (1) how much our partner teachers are using the TeachFX app, and (2) whether our partner districts renew and/or expand their contracts with us.
